Mindset ‘Go To’ List

In my last post I mentioned my ‘go to’ list which helps me maintain a positive mindset, stay on track and feeling connected to my passions and dreams.

As we often start a new year by making resolutions I thought it a great time to share this with you as most of the things on the list started out as exactly that!

Resolutions aren’t just a new year thing…

During 2015 I made a whole heap of resolutions, I had to in order to make the changes I have. Whilst the new year is a great time to start, it’s not a necessity, we can make changes anytime we want, we just have to decide to.

This list, which I’ve shared in a series of videos below, helps me structure my day in a way that ensures I achieve my best mindset and am therefore the best version of me. It works as a stress reliever and helps me feel balanced and connected to the world around me.

Please don’t freak out at all the things on it, I don’t do all of them every day! I aim to do about 70-80% of them and certainly don’t beat myself up for not doing them all. After all we’re after consistency, not perfection. I simply pick out the one’s which feel most appropriate and do as many as I can, but I do start to notice the difference if I do any less than 50% .

There are two sections – the ‘golden hour’ and ‘essentials’.

Golden hour

I start the day with my ‘golden hour’ which is my time to do what I want to get my day off to the best possible start! I’ve chosen an hour because I’m a morning person and can work this into my routine, but it can be as little as 10 minutes, whatever you can manage.

I find that by doing this I’m more focused, effective and efficient in everything else I do, I can save hours later in the day so it’s definitely worth it! My golden hour is structured as follows but yours is likely be different as it needs to be what works for you;

  1. 5 Minute Journal/Gratitude
  2. Exercise/Fresh Air
  3. Journaling
  4. Meditation
  5. Pamper
  6. I Love You


The ‘essentials’ are my basics i.e. the foundation of my mental and physical health. They are my survival kit, the absolute necessities which are particularly useful for when life chucks everything it has at you! I’ve listed them below and explained them in more detail in another video here.

  1. Be present
  2. Listen to your body/be kind to yourself
  3. Laugh
  4. Breathing
  5. Eating
  6. Hydrating
  7. Sleep
  8. Creativity

Times of need…

My other ‘go to’ item is my mindset ‘bible’ which is where I go to in times of need. There’s another video which explains this in more detail here.

I get my inspiration from everywhere! Instagram, people I meet, videos and social media posts from people like Brene Brown and Tony Robbins.

What should you take away from this?

I focused on implementing each item one at a time. I’ve found it takes about 2 weeks before it starts to feel like a habit and 4 weeks before it feels like part of my normal routine.

So if you’ve already slipped up, don’t worry, dust yourself off and start again as it’s never too late! Don’t set unrealistic goals, hold yourself accountable for just one small change as all big changes start with a small step in the right direction.

Implement a golden hour, or golden 10 minutes, whatever you can do to start your day off right. What would your ideal morning look like? What things will keep you on track to reach your goals and dreams? It’s probably more easily achievable than you realise and only a few small changes away!

What are your essentials? The things which are fundamental to your day to make you feel awesome. What things bring you joy and happiness? What would you like to do more of and how could you work this into your day, even if it’s only 10 minutes?

The answers to these questions will help you achieve the best possible mindset and version of yourself!
